No. I · A potion of Devotion
Velvet Heresy
The blend that made congregations kneel.
Of all the House's surviving formulas, none was copied so often, nor copied so badly. Velvet Heresy was first blended for a cardinal who asked — behind a locked door, in a voice barely above breath — for something that would make the faithful unable to look away from him.
The House obliged. The cathedral filled for a decade. What the cardinal never learned is that the potion does not command attention. It commands devotion — and devotion, once given, is very difficult to take back.
